Youth Counselling

Ages 12 and up, at their pace.

From the outside, you seem okay.

Whether you're a teen reading this yourself or a parent trying to figure out what would help, being young right now carries more than most people give credit for. The pressures at school. Shifting friendships. Family stuff. Identity questions. Feelings that arrive fast and don't always have names yet.

Sometimes the hardest things to carry are the things other people can't see. You might be getting through your day, showing up, and doing what you need to do—while still feeling stressed, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of yourself underneath it all.

Some of what shows up:

01 Big feelings that arrive fast and don't have language

One minute fine, the next flooded, and no one taught you how to describe what happens in between. It makes sense. Most schools don't teach it either.

02 Feeling like everyone else has it figured out

The performance of okay-ness runs high at this age. Underneath, most people your age are just as lost. Being able to name that is a huge relief.

03 Overthinking, second-guessing, or shutting down

The mind starts running in circles, or the whole system just goes quiet. Both are the nervous system doing its best to protect you when things feel like too much.

04 Sensitivity to noise, mood shifts, or being called "too much"

Some young people feel everything more, and get told to feel less. We work with sensitivity as information, not a defect.

05 Anxious about school, friendships, or the future

Anxiety in youth often gets labelled as "just teen stress." Sometimes it is. Sometimes it's a nervous system asking for support that hasn't been offered yet.

06 Wondering if something is wrong with you

This is one of the most common things young people bring into therapy. It's almost never a sign something is wrong with you. It's a sign you're paying attention to yourself.

If any of this lands, you're not alone. What you're describing is what happens when a young person is growing up in a world that didn't quite teach anyone what to do with big feelings. Together we build the vocabulary and tools so you can meet the world with more of yourself, not less.

When it's helpful, parents can be woven in, because a young person's nervous system is still in relationship with the ones around them.

What might bring you in

Most young people come in with a mix of a few of these, not just one. Your reason doesn't have to fit neatly into any single category.

Sessions are 100% virtual or on the phone, 50 minutes each, $175 per session. Free 20-minute consultation. Ages 12 and up.

School stress & performance pressure

Tests, grades, expectations you didn't set, and the weight of a future that keeps feeling closer. Together we make space for what's underneath the pressure.

Anxiety & overthinking

Thoughts on loop, body tight, and worry that seems to come from nowhere or everywhere. We slow it down and figure out what your nervous system is trying to say.

Friendships & social stuff

Feeling left out, the pressure to fit in, friendships that change, or the exhaustion of managing how you're seen. We look at what feels honest for you underneath all of that.

Family dynamics & communication

Feeling misunderstood, not knowing how to say what you actually mean, or being tired of the same arguments. Sometimes parents are involved in this work, sometimes not, depending on what would actually help.

Identity, self-esteem, & who you're becoming

Wondering who you are, what you want, or whether the version of you people see is the real one. There's no pressure to have answers, just space to explore.

Big feelings & emotional regulation

Feelings that come in fast and hard, or that get pushed down until they overflow. We build a vocabulary and set of tools so feelings can move through instead of ambushing you.

Neurodivergence (ADHD, autism)

Affirming support for neurodivergent youth. We build on your strengths and adapt sessions to fit how you learn, process information, and create meaningful, sustainable change.

Feeling stuck, flat, or disconnected

Not sad exactly, not fine, just off. Together we get curious about what's underneath the fog and what might be wanting to wake up.

Sessions that fit your life

Held over a secure, PIPEDA-compliant video call software, or by phone if you prefer. 50-minute sessions, paced for the young person in front of me, available across British Columbia.

Who I work with

Teens ages 12 through 18. Sometimes parents or guardians are woven in when it supports the work; sometimes sessions stay one-on-one. We figure out what makes sense together.

How sessions work

50-minute virtual sessions over a secure video call or by phone. Most young people start weekly or biweekly. We adjust the rhythm together based on what feels right for their life.

How involved are parents?

It varies. Some young people want their parents involved at intake and check-ins. Others need the sessions to feel completely their own. I follow the young person's lead while keeping parents informed at a level that supports the work without breaking trust.

Fees & insurance

$175 per 50-minute session. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), sessions are eligible for coverage under most extended health plans in BC that recognize the RCC designation, and many that recognize CCC. I provide receipts you can submit directly for reimbursement.

Booking & cancellation

Reach out through the contact page to book a free 20-minute consultation. Sessions can be rescheduled up to 24 hours in advance; later cancellations are charged the full session fee.

Confidentiality

What a young person shares stays between us, with a few limited exceptions I'll walk parents and the young person through in our first session. I follow Canadian privacy standards (PIPEDA) and professional ethical guidelines.

How I work with you

My work isn't one method, it's the weaving together of several, shaped to fit the person in front of me.

Person-Centered Therapy

You are the expert on your own experience. My role is to walk alongside you, not to lead.

Somatic CBT

Working with thoughts and the body together, because how we feel isn't separate from what we believe.

EFIT

Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy, meeting emotions where they live, with care and curiosity.

Somatic Experiencing

A gentle approach to processing what the nervous system has held onto, without rushing or overwhelming.

What to expect

The consultation

A free 20-minute call for the young person and/or a parent to share a little about what's been happening, ask questions, and get a feel for whether we'd be a good fit.

Our first session

We move at their pace. The first session is often about getting to know each other, sharing what feels important, and figuring out what would feel supportive going forward.

Ongoing work

Sessions are usually weekly or biweekly to start. Over time, we settle into a rhythm that fits school, life, and where the work is going.

Common Questions

What ages do you work with?

Teens ages 12 through 18. For adults, see the Adult Counselling page. For parents looking for their own coaching or workshops, see the Parents page.

My teen doesn't want to come to therapy. What now?

That's common, and it's worth having a free consultation call yourself as a parent first. We can talk through what might make it feel less intimidating for your teen, and whether coaching for you might be a better first step while they get ready.

What credentials do you hold?

I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Both designations reflect meeting rigorous standards for education, supervised clinical experience, and ethical practice.

Are sessions covered by insurance?

Sessions are eligible for coverage under most extended health plans in BC that recognize the RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor) designation, and many that recognize CCC. Coverage varies by provider, so it's worth checking with your specific plan. I provide receipts you can submit directly for reimbursement.
